Item 1. About Us

b(x) Theory is a fintech company on a mission to democratize business turnarounds—the special situation in which a company recovers from the risk of bankruptcy. In an industry still dominated by outdated, heuristic, and conflicted advisory models, we build software to recommend the optimal restructuring strategies that maximize value for companies and their creditors. Through our financial data science lab, we combine deep domain expertise with proprietary data and AI research to develop models and systems that help companies around the world.

Item 2. Your Role

As an AI Engineer, you play a key role in advancing the underlying technology that enables us to restructure companies more efficiently and effectively than the status quo. While traditional restructuring professionals spend hours performing manual analyses constrained by human judgement, we synthesize data for actionable, unbiased outcomes within a fraction of the time—thanks to our proprietary AI systems that you help build.

During your term, you will be responsible for a unique R&D project to augment a select aspect of a financial restructuring expert’s data-informed workflow, by building specialized agents from start to finish. With support from our multi-disciplinary founding team, you will understand the business requirements, iterate on designs of the agentic system, rapidly prototype with cutting-edge tools, ensure that evaluations meet the standards of our domain, and deploy into production as part of our broader systems.

If you like how ambitious this job sounds, that's our intention: To give you an experience you can’t get anywhere else. In addition to honing your Gen AI skills, you will learn how to solve real-world problems in a complex, high-stakes domain while being granted the autonomy to make the most out of your time with us.

Item 3. About You

  • Data-Obsessed: You are relentless about data quality and disciplined in reviewing your own work.
  • Systems Thinker: You don’t just write code. You think in abstractions and ask second-order questions.
  • Founder’s Mindset: You take full ownership without ego, stay accountable, remain open to feedback, and maintain positivity even in tough times.
  • Trustworthy Team Player: You’re honest, you show up prepared, raise blockers early, and enjoy helping others.
  • Loves to Build: You genuinely have fun doing what you do.

Item 4. Requirements

  • You must be enrolled full-time or part-time at a Canadian post-secondary education institution and are able to provide proof of enrolment during your co-op/internship term.
  • You must be a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident or a Protected Person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • You are proficient with one or more programming languages, such as Python, C++, Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar.
  • You possess a working knowledge of the Google Cloud ecosystem and hands-on experience with agentic frameworks such as Google’s Agent Development Kit (ADK).

Item 5. How to Apply

Please email your CV/resume to careers@bxtheory.com and a brief note (3-5 sentences) about why you’re interested in this opportunity. Bonus points if you share personal projects or work you’re proud of!
